ATTENTION PROGRAMMERS AND THOSE EXPERIENCED WITH SERVERS: Fulci666 needs your help!

Update: This project is dead. Keeping the article up here for archiving purposes.

Hey folks,

So, I’ve briefly mentioned Resident Evil: Outbreak here before, and how the servers were shut down back in 2007. For those who don’t know, Outbreak was an online RE game on PS2 that also had a sequel. The games weren’t the best, and they could get frustrating for newbies, but they were, in my opinion, the most intense multiplayer games ever made, and the absolute textbook definition of Survival Horror.

That said, the lack of servers has put the game into a permanent single-player state, as it has no LAN or split screen capabilities.

In the ensuing years, people have tried to hack the game to get multiplayer functionality back in, but it’s been very rough going, and the game being for a console rather than PC doesn’t help.

Now, I present to you today Fulci666, the man who may bring back RE: O’s online features. He has come the furthest in figuring out the technical side of things, and he’s actually doing research into Java and Weblogic, just for the sake of getting these games playable online again in some form. He’s been at it since 2010, and although sometimes it takes him a while to update, it’s primarily because he’s busy with his own life, in addition to researching for this project. If he had just a little help in areas that take his valuable time to research and study, Resident Evil online may yet see the light of day again.

This is where you come in.

I ask that anyone with programming or server experience of any kind, please offer your assistance to this man. Even if you don’t care about the game, if you are able to give him a quick pointer or two in your free time, it would be much appreciated.

Thank you,
